I’ve always known they were friends but I’m not the type to be really into someone because of who his friends might be so that’s kind of a non issue for me. The truth it, he is hella talented. I mean shockingly talented. He has the kind of talent all performers should have, but just don’t. Johnny Flynn has the kind of voice you can sit in a quiet room and listen to with no musical accompaniment and be completely satisfied. He sings like an angel.
I was lucky enough to see him in concert in October and he was amazing! It was the best live performance I’ve ever seen and his performance of The Wrote and the Writ was the best 4 minutes of concert going I’d ever heard. I think I may have held my breath during the whole song because it was so beautiful. It was moving.

I was able to get there early and met him out front as he sat on the curb. My husband took a photo of us and then in bought his CD from him, which he signed. The CD was sceheduled to come out the next day so I was glad to be getting it from him. I also brought his first CD with me and he signed that as well. Becuase I was the second person in line, I was able to stand directly in front of his mike stand for the entire performance. My husband shuffled drinks to me and I had to go to the bathroom like crazy but I refused to move the whole time. I just wanted to listen.
I can’t even express how excited I was that night! It was over the top and I’m sure it will be the same when I see him on June 2nd with the Sussex Wit. When I saw him before it was just his voice in a room with that amazing guitar that I’m so used to seeing in everything he does. It looks like it has a metal vegetable steamer on the front and it looks old so it’s stuck in my memory.
He has two CDs and you can purchase them both on Amazon. His first was A Larum and you can buy it HERE. You can hear samples of each song.
The second which came out in October is called Been Listening and you can buy that one HERE. You can hear samples of those songs as well. Also, if you click on “customer images” you can see a few photos I posted from the show last year.
We love Johnny Flynn so much in this house that my 2 and 4 year old ask for him by name and sing his songs when they’re playing. As I sit here now my daughter is running around the kitchen singing “Cold bread, cold bread, we have!” My son, who is four and has speech delays sings his songs continuously, even calling The Wrote and the Writ, “Our song.” That is HUGE for us!
He just had a new son a couple of months ago and one of the best things about having children is being able to share what you love with them. I always looked forward to sharing my music with my kids. I think everyone looks forward to doing that. I love that I could have the chance to tell him that he is that for us. He is what I so love sharing with my kids.
