My BIG Fat Twilight Convention Post ~ Arlington!

I’ve been to other Official Twilight Conventions before, the last being Portland in October.  It was fun, but it wasn’t as fun as the convention in Arlington this weekend!

The convention was smaller than the one I’d been to at the same hotel last year.  Also, the Nation of Islam was there last year because Louis Farrakhan  was staying in the hotel and that was a nightmare.  Luckily they stayed somewhere else this time so it was easier to move around without so many people just standing around in the lobby.

I skipped Friday because I have two small children and I needed to be with them on Friday and my 4 year old has school.  I could have driven down after but what’s the point?  Everyone that I wanted to see was going to be appearing on Saturday and some even on Sunday as well.

This guy sat directly in front of the not so great seat I had on Saturday.  The room wasn’t all that big so it wasn’t too far back but there were plenty of people in front of me.  Like this guy who dressed as a member of the Wolf Pack!  He has the tattoo and everything.  More on him later.

Up first on Saturday was The Hillywood Show screening of Eclipse Parody.  While I’ve seen this many times already it’s always fun to see it with an audience.  Every time I see Hannah and Hilly I am shocked at how tiny they are.  I love Eclipse Parody!  I think it’s my favorite of the Saga Parodies, but I also really like the new Vampire Diaries Parody they did as well.  Check it out HERE if you haven’t seen it!

It was nice to see them there.  I haven’t seen them since I interviewed them for Twilightblogs.com a few months ago.  They had lots of shirts and things for sale as well as their parodies.  I bought a shirt for my daughter.  It’s a little big but I planned to make it a dress anyway.

The first guest on Saturday was Gil Birmingham who plays Jacob’s father Billy Black in the Saga!  He was lots of fun and had great stories to tell about filming.

Up next was Leah Gibson.  She played Nettie in Eclipse.  It was a very small part so I’m not 100% sure that everyone knew who she was.  She was one of the three vampires who turned Jasper when he got off of the horse during the Civil War.

Leah was fun.  Clearly a dancer.  She walks like she’s in the middle of a ballet performance and stands like she’s doing a pirouette.  She just seemed happy to be there.  She’s done other things but nothing huge.  She was in Supernatural last year and the mini series Tin Man back in 2007.

After watching clips from past Creation conventions and press junkets the next guests were of the Wolf Pack persuasion!  Chaske Spencer (Alpha Male ~Sam Uley)  and Bronson Pelletier (Jared) shared the stage and answered questions together.  They talked about what it was like to work with the rest of the Wolf Pack, Chaske showed us that he still has his Wolf Pack tattoo on his arm.  Apparently it takes ages for it to fade away.  Bronson mentioned that he had someone scrub his off before leaving and she had to scrub so hard that it scabbed over.  They also talked about farts on more than one occasion…random.

All of the morning guests did  photo ops and autograph sessions during the day.  I had my photo with Gil, because he seemed so nice.  I hadn’t planned on doing photo ops this time around but decided to take the plunge since the guests had been so much fun.

There was a no minimum bid on Saturday as well as Sunday.  If I’m being honest I have to say that I don’t understand people who pay so much for autographs unless it’s for charity but some of those items were nice, they just cost more than two car payments.

Bill Tangradi was up next and he plays Randall, a nomad vamp who acts as witness for the Cullens in Breaking Dawn.  After him was Charlie Bewley who play Demetri of the Volturi.  Both were really cool.   I thought there was a chance I would be a little bored with the newbies but they surprised me by being some of the most fun of the weekend!

They both answered fan questions and told stories about playing vampires.  It was nice to hear Bill talk about being one of the new guys and Charlie talk about how he’s glad he’s playing a “bad” vamp because he thinks the Cullens are boring.

Saturday night was the Volturi Ball….

…and if you’ve never been to one, you should check it out.  It is hosted by Hannah and Hilly and the stars come and hang out for a while.  I met this girl named Alexis that had a kick ass Wolf Pack tattoo on her back!  More on her later…

There was a centerpiece contest and there were some fun ones this year.  This is the one that won:

However this one was my personal favorite:

I think there were 8 centerpieces total and they all looked like they took a lot of time.

Everyone was dressed up for the ball!  Most just looked really nice but some took the extra set to look “Twilighted” as well.  There were capes, red wigs and fangs as far as the eye could see.  A lot of people stopped by the Fantasy Faces Body Art table to have their faces and sometimes necks painted.  I watched a lot of this being done and this woman is hella talented!  Her name is Andrea and she travels with her daughter.  Both were really nice and didn’t seem to mind that I not only watched them but took photos of them as well. This is Andrea and the following photos are of her working and the end result.  Looking at it, you’d think it took hours but she does it really fast.

Lots of fun outfits:

As if eyeballing the room wasn’t fun enough, the stars showed up!

This is just about the point where Alexis (who we met earlier) came back into the picture.  Remember she is the one with the great Wolf Pack tattoo on her back and another girl pointed it out to Chaske as he walked into the room and he stopped to look at it.

Needless to say, he was impressed!  I think he was shocked (as was I) that whoever put that thing on her did it perfectly!  I would think that would be something that was easy to mess up, but it really was a nice tattoo.

How sweet of him to stop and pose for this photo for this girl!  I mean I really don’t even know her and just happened to be at the right place at the right time and will make sure she gets a copy of it but what a great thing for her to have this photo!  Who wouldn’t love this photo of themselves?  I totally love Chaske now!  I’m Team Chaske!!!  Also, on a total side note, the girl standing next to Alexis facing the camera, Andrea from Fantasy Faces painted that necklace on her neck.  I watched her do it.  It took minutes!

I retired after the Ball and at some point took some phone photos of some of my loot.  They didn’t have as much there in the way of vendors as they did last year or at other conventions but what they had was nice.

Fantasy Faces did the face painting as well as hair and sold these scarves for the hair that were beautiful.  I know they’re probably called something else that makes them sound so much better but here’s a photo of them to help your visual:

I also bought these fun little necklaces from them:

There was also Twilightpated who sold Twilight necklaces, mouse pads, jewelry sets and all kinds of Twilight inspired items.

When not onstage, the Hillywood Show sold their items. Lots of DVDs for sale:

If you click on the link above, it will take you to their site where you can buy items and watch their latest Vampire Diaries Parody.   I bought my daughter a shirt.  She’s only two so it’s a dress, but cute as hell and it goes great with her Chuck Taylor’s!

They had a vendor selling shirts and small items like these:

Sunday was a slower say but not any less fun.  I had been up until three so that may have been why it seemed slow.  I was dragging a bit.  After a yummy breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant, I went into the auditorium and listened to Chaske answer fan questions again (fun as always) and then newbie vamp (Liam in Breaking Dawn) Patrick Brennan did the same followed by Charlie later in the day.  The fan questions are put into a box by the fans in the vendor room.  I asked someone a question but I don’t even remember who at this point, even though he totally answered it!

Every star was asked the same question by someone.  “Would you rather have no elbows or no knees?”  Patrick answered it best.  He at first said “I’d rather have no elbows because I need to get around.”  This was just a question or two after answering that his most memorable  moment was the birth of his 19 month old son.  Someone behind me yelled out, “You wouldn’t be able to hold your son!”  He then changed his answer to no knees because anyone with children would want to hold them.  I got a little teary at the question myself and I wasn’t even being asked!  Someone also asked him if he could dance and he answered by dancing to some Lady GaGa that someone happened to have on hand.

I don’t even remember what Charlie was doing here but it makes me laugh every time I look at it so I thought I’d share:

I also ran into this guy again who sat in front of me on Saturday.  I didn’t get his name but he looked great!  I like to see a guy having a good time and going with it.  My husband would NEVER do this!  LOVE IT and he was a really nice guy!

The last thing I did on Sunday was have my photo taken with Chaske, Patrick and Charlie!  They were so much fun and why would the photo be anything less than that?  I think I like this one better than my photo with Peter Facinelli!  Also, Patrick is hella tall!  My husband is 6’3″so me likey!  Love it!

If you haven’t been to one of the stops of The Official Twilight Convention Tour, you should go!  These things won’t continue forever so get in while you can.  Here is a link to the schedule.

The Hillywood Show ~ The Vampire Diaries Parody!

We’re big fans of The Hillywood Show!  They’re done great work with the Twilight Saga parodies that they’ve done and they just finished their latest, The Vampre Diaries Parody.  They seem to have a thing for Lady GaGa, but so do I so hearing her again in thie new parody pleases me.

Take a look and then stop by their website to check out the latest info on where you can see Hannah and Hilly next on the Official Twilight Convention Tour. The website has been updated and it looks great!

A Interview With The Hillywood Show! Part II

The latest Twilight Saga parody from The Hillywood Show is Eclipse Parody. Visually it is the best (in my opinion) and perhaps the funniest. The music, which is all remixed by Hilly is excellent but it is excellent in all of the Twilight Saga parodies as well as the other parodies they’ve done.

I love the comedy in Eclipse Parody and I love the music.  Lady Gaga is a big deal in my house!  I have a four year old son who is in love with her!  However, as much as I love those things, I have to say my favorite thing about Eclipse Parody is the Harper’s Bazaar photo remakes.   They were done so well.  The attention to detail is amazing.

I also really like that the actors aren’t changing.  Revolving actors for the same characters annoys me because it’s distracting, IE, Victoria in Eclipse.  I’ll never get over that one.

You can see Eclipse Parody here:

This is a behind the scenes look at the making of Eclipse Parody:

The interview ~ Part II

14. What kind of camera do you use for filming and for photography on set? There is such a visual progression from Twilight Parody and others to Eclipse and I wondered if you used the same camera.

H&H ~ We are now shooting with a Canon 7D. It’s HD..that’s why. We love it!

15. What is the first parody you did?

H&H ~ Well, we didn’t really do a parody but we recreated “The Little Mermaid” in our garage when Hilly was 9yrs. and Hannah was 13yrs. Does that count?  (Yes, that counts!)

16. How do you choose what you’ll parody? Does it have to be a film you really enjoy to make a good parody?

H&H ~ It usually depends on if we can make it look good and if we can afford it.
17. What is your favorite parody?

H&H ~ “Dark Knight” and “Eclipse Parody”
18. The apple trick in the cafeteria in Twilight Parody. How did you do it?

H&H ~ With a string just like they did in “Twilight” the motion picture. But the weird thing is, we didn’t know that they did it with a string either.
19. Where do you get the clothes for your Twilight parodies? The clothes Kristen wore or the Harper’s shoot? I see Maria Maldanado has done the wardrobe for most if not all of your parodies. Are the clothes made or purchased?

H&H ~ Some of the costumes are purchased. However, our grandmother is Maria and she has made most of the costumes since we began. We also now have John Henson who is a costume designer and he helps with the BIG stuff!

19-A ~ With your mom as your manager and your Grandmother making your outfits, this seems to be a family affair. Is that important to you?

H&H ~ It’s nice to have close family and friends help us out. They are the biggest blessings!

20. What is your favorite scene from Eclipse Parody?

H&H ~ All the Harper Bazaar shooting! It turned out so beautiful and was so much fun to shoot!
21. Not as did you enjoy making them but as filmmakers watching the final project, which Twilight parody do you think turned out best and why?

H&H ~ “Eclipse Parody” because we like that it had more comedy.

22. Starting with Drew, Kyle and Jacob, and going into the other actors (including Volturi) how do you find them? Do you do casting calls where they come to you?

H&H ~ We search through friends first and then friends of our friends. Ha! We like to keep the cast intimate.

23. How do you pick who will play the lead in parody? Do y’all ever argue about who plays what roll?

H&H~ No, we never argue! We look at each other and know which one fits a role better.
24. What do you want to accomplish in, say 10 years? Where do both of you see yourself 10 years from now?

H&H~ Our goal is to have “The Hillywood Show” picked up by a television network. From there, Hilly would like to be an actress and Hannah would like to be a director or make-up artist.
25. I saw on your Facebook page that you asked your fans what they’d like to see you parody next. Besides Breaking Dawn, it looked like most asked for Harry Potter? Any plans to do that?

H&H ~ We are hoping and praying that a “Harry Potter Parody” will be in the works in the future! However, we do not have the funds to create it right now. We are saying our prayers!
26. Assuming you’ll do a Breaking Dawn parody, will you break it into two?

H&H ~ Not sure…we have to see the movie first.

27. I enjoy your Tiny Chats. Do you have plans to do more?

H&H ~ Yes, we do! When we are on tour and have a short break in the evenings.

Lastly is there anything you’d like your fans to know about you that they might not already know or that may surprise them?

H&H~ Watch for a new parody coming out sometime in February! Here’s a clue: It’s based on a tv show!

In the last few days it was announced that The Hillywood Show’s next parody would be the Vampire Diaries!  Make sure you keep a look out for that!  It will be released in February!

I want to give a special THANK YOU to Hannah and Hilly Hindi and The Hillywood Show for answering all of my questions and for being so kind as to allow me the use of their photos and videos!

I can’t wait to see if they’ll do a Breaking Dawn Parody.  It is my hope that they will.  It would be a shame to leave the Saga unfinished.  This photo gives me hope:

An Interview with The Hillywood Show! Part I

I’m a big fan of the Hillywood Show.  I discovered them shortly before a Twilight convention when a friend of mine had seen them at the Official Twilight Convention in her city.  She raved about them and told me how funny they were.  I Googled them immediately and came across their Twilight Parody and I was hooked.  I’ve seen a lot of Twilight and Twilight related parodies but this is the best, by far.  They parody The Twilight Saga with a class that the rest seem to be lacking.  I have seen some Twilight related parodies that would make your momma blush!  These aren’t those kind of parodies.

This is their Twilight Parody

In my new role as Editor in Chief for Twilightblogs.com I knew I wanted to interview Hilly and Hannah Hindi so I was tickled pink when they agreed to do it!  I first spoke with their mom/manager Emilyand she couldn’t have been more helpful and kind.  She set me up with the girls and answered questions I had about their website.  As I trolled the site looking at all the fun videos and photos they have, I quickly realized that I’d seen Emily at a Twilight Convention before.  I hadn’t realized she was their mother because she looks more like their sister.  No one would have any idea she was their mother had they not been told.  Although in all fairness if I worked in a Quickie Mart, I’d card any of them for cigarettes, not that they smoke.

I’ve seen Hannah and Hilly at conventions and even spoke to them telling them what a great job I thought they were doing, but for some reason I never had my photo with them.  That will all change in April when I go to my first Twilight Convention of 2011!  I’m pretty excited!

The Hillywood Show is Hannah (Alice) and Hilly (Bella) Hindi.  The ideas are their own.  They shoot everything.  They script everything and they find the actors as well. I did some research on the other three main characters in their show (Jacob Jost (Edward) and Drew Lorentz (Jasper) and Kyle Dayton(Jacob) and they’re pretty interesting.  Lots of great photos and things on all of them.  They all seem to really enjoy what they’re doing!   There are also actors who play Rosalie, Carlisle, Esme, Emmett and the Voturi.  If you’ve seen New Moon Parody, there were a ton of extras in the Italy scene.  It must be a full time job to keep up with all of that!  If you are a Twilight fan and you don’t know of The Hillywood Show, you need to go HERE right NOW!

This is their New Moon Parody:

While I came upon The Hillywood Show because of their Twilight parodies, that isn’t all they do.  Hannah and Hilly have been doing this for a long time and have many, many parodies under their belt.  Here are a few of my non-Twilight favorites:

The Runaways

Dark Knight

Lady GaGa’s Christmas

It looks like they have a really good time doing what they’re doing!

So, on to the interview.  The girls were kind enough to answer 25 questions I sent their way.   As to not overwhelm you I am breaking the interview up into two parts.  This is part one:

1.      How did this get started? / Whose idea was it?

H&H ~The Hillywood Show” started back in 2006 when we entered a contest for AOL.  They were asking teens to send in their idea for a web show and so we entered.  We placed in America’s Top 5 Finalists out of 100,000 entries!  Unfortunately, we didn’t win, but fans were telling us to continue with the idea anyway…and…here we are today!

2.      How did you get hooked up with Creation Entertainment for the Official Twilight Convention Tour?

H&H~ We knew the Co-founder, Adam Malin, from previous “Lord of the Rings” Conventions were we performed and saw that we would be holding “Twilight” Conventions!  We just emailed him about our new video production “Twilight Parody” and asked if he would be interested in showing it at the conventions.  Next thing we know, he wanted to tour and host!  We were so excited!

3.      Have you met any of the cast outside of conventions?  Were you able to meet Rob, Taylor or Kristen in LA?  Have they heard any feedback from the cast?

H&H ~  No, we have never met the cast outside of the conventions.  Yes, we did meet the main 3 and they were all very down to earth and nice!  Yes, many of the actors/actresses have commented and tweeted about our videos!  It’s so awesome hearing feedback from them!

4.      What is the weirdest thing that you’ve ever been asked to do by one of your fans?

H&H ~ Uh…well one time a girl asked if she could kiss Kyle (our Jacob Black) for a photo…and she was serious!  We had to tell her unfortunately she couldn’t.  Ha ha!

5.      Do you consider yourself Twihards?  Team Edward or Jacob?

H&H ~ Team Edward!

6.      I noticed you don’t list the year you were born on your site.  Is that intentional?  I’ve seen you both at conventions in character and out and I think you both look so young.

H&H ~ Hilly is 20yrs. and Hannah is 24yrs.

7.      What is the weirdest thing about either of you that you think your fans would be interested to know?

H&H ~ We say things at the same time when it’s not planned.

8.      Do you ever get mistaken for Bella or Alice when in costume?

H&H ~ No, not really.  People will do a double take but no one has ever thought we were the actual actresses except for little kids.

9.      How much time out of the year do you spend traveling?

H&H ~ Well, we calculated that last year we were only home for 80 days out of the entire year!

9-A ~ 80 days at home last year?  Do you like traveling that much?  What do you like or dislike about being on the road so much?

H&H ~ Yes, we love to travel!  We love to see new places and meet new people.  Bad things…we miss our own bed.  HA HA!

10.  Approximately how long does it take to shoot a parody?  What is the longest shoot you’ve ever had?

H&H ~  It usually takes about 2 months.  ”Eclipse Parody” was definitely one of the longest.  It took 3 months.

10-A ~ Why so much longer for Eclipse Parody?

H&H ~ “Eclipse Parody” was on a much larger scale and we had more locations to travel to.

11.  Once you decide on the next parody, what comes next, music, wardrobe, locations?

H&H ~ Scripting and idea first!  Then funds!  Ha!

12.  How long does it usually take to script a new parody?  Do you have a process?

H&H ~ We actually do not write scripts.  It’s all in our heads.  We both discuss ideas, plan it, and then go from there.

13.   How long do you spend in editing?  I thought you edited Eclipse Parody pretty quickly.

H&H ~ Usually 2 weeks.

Please stop back tomorrow for Part II of my interview with The Hillywood Show!

Also, stop by the Official Twilight Convention in San Francisco this weekend to meet the Hillywood cast!
